Next week, Rachel Reeves will deliver her Autumn Budget and whilst headlines have focused on spending deficits and possible changes to taxes, pensions, and savings, these are only rumours, and history tells us that many speculated changes don’t transpire into reality.
Acting pre-emptively on speculation, rather than factual information, can lead to costly mistakes, so the right approach is to stay calm and focused on your long-term plans, which are designed to withstand the inevitable changes that come with time.
It’s important to remember that the incentives of the financial press are to capture our attention, and that we are more prone to respond to negative headlines.
